The date for the Interfaith celebration was identified by the Kenya Conference of Catholic Bishops as it is the annual feast day of St Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of animals and the environment.
KINEA follows in the footsteps of Uganda Faiths Network on Environmental Action (UFNEA), which was launched last year. It has had at least 35 requests from additional faith groups to join and it the first network of its kind supported by ARC.
A third network is also in the pipeline: ARC’s faith partners in Tanzania also formed a group, the Network of Faiths on Environmental Action in Tanzania (NEFEAT), earlier in 2014 and hope to launch this soon.
The networks have been created as a platform to inspire faith-based environmental action and to give the faiths a voice at local and national policy level.
