The book, pictured above, which was published earlier this year with support from ARC and has been approved by AMECEA’s pastoral co-ordinators, is a teaching toolkit for catechists and seminarians. It examines issues around land, water, biodiversity, natural resources and energy.
Sr Elizabeth and Father Peter Mbara, also from CUEA, presented the topic of stewardship of the environment and the role of catechists in helping to spread the conservation message.
In her report, Sr Elizabeth said: ‘Care and stewardship of the environment is a responsibility for all. Each and every person must nurture and protect it for the present and future generation. Pope Benedict XVI argued that if humans do not begin to listen to the voice of the Earth they will risk destroying its very existence.’
The action plan included organizing tree planting campaigns for children, parents teaching their children about Nature and conservation through prayers and activities, celebrations around agro-ecological activities and awareness raising campaigns in churches on environmental management.
